I love to read. Always have. But I have mostly quit reading books. For now, in this season of my life.
Because when I’m reading a novel, I pretty much can’t think about anything else. I already procrastinate. And I am lazy. So, books pretty much seal the coffin on productivity for me.
Enter: blogs.
These four are the ones I keep going back to right now. They don’t necessarily fit into one category, although each of the writers is real. You know, authentic. And although they probably have an awesomely-put-together-life, they each are transparent in their writing. Half are serious; the other two, not so much. Either way, I love that honesty.
Susie Davis
I keep up with her blog because it inspires me spiritually. Her daughters are grown, and I love her words of wisdom toward them. I always learn when I read her posts. This one, especially, stands out to me.
Jen Hatmaker
Well, as inspiring as Susie Davis is, Jen Hatmaker is equally shake-your-head funny. Let’s just say she’s not your typical preacher’s wife. She’s probably not supposed to be a comedian, but her writing is hilarious. Also a faith-based writer, she ranks high on the keeping-it-real meter. She’s on Facebook and updates that pretty often.
We Are That Family
This is the kind of family I want us to be when I grow up. Except her kids are younger than mine; she’s younger than me; and comparing ourselves to others is a no-win street. Still, the thought lurks in the back of my mind.
I like her blog so much, I think because we have a lot of the same ideas when it comes to parenting. Except, she says it so WELL. She just has a way with expressing herself that makes it clear and succinct, and I just really identify with her thoughts. Two examples: here and here.
And then there’s Africa. Her family saw a need and went with it in a big way. In an ALL-IN kind of way. And that’s pretty awesome.
The Lazy Genius Collective
Two words: blog envy.
This is the newest blog on my radar, and it is just all around the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time. I love the concept of the lazy genius, I love her writing (Downton Abbey boyfriends), I love her all-time-favorites-in-everything-list, I love the layout of the website, I even love her copyright statement at the very bottom of the screen.
At the risk of sounding dramatic (after just sounding highly stalker-ish), I think her blog has changed my life.
So there you have it. My favorite blogs today. What have I missed? Point me toward some great ones I haven’t seen!
