Ibotta-Updated!

Without a doubt, ibotta is my favorite money-saving app.  Can you see why?  😀

Ibotta is a free app that allows you to receive rebates from a huge variety of stores and restaurants on things you buy, such as groceries and clothing. The rebates are paid through your choice of gift cards, through PayPal, or you can link your bank account to receive deposits.

We have used it for about four years now and have received more than $700…on things we were buying anyway.

Here’s a quick list of the last dozen rebates I’ve received on ibotta.

Where can you use Ibotta?

Um, pretty much everywhere.

Ibotta has rebates from Walmart, Kroger, Publix, CVS, Rite Aid, Circle K, and on and on…as well as Bed Bath and Beyond, Amazon, Kohl’s, Belk, etc.

I always try to check before making a purchase…between ibotta and Rakuten, I’m bound to find something!

How does it work?

It’s super simple to use.

Click here to open an account.  At the time of this being published, you get $20 automatically when you use my link! That jumpstarts your savings.😀

The $20 will appear in your account when you get your first rebate for a name brand item, such as Dunkin Donuts coffee (or hundreds, maybe thousands of other possibilities!).

Once you’re logged in, you can click on the store where you shop most or search for a specific item, whatever makes the most sense to you.

Walmart is where we shop most of the time for groceries, so I click on Walmart, then I scroll through the sections and look for things we buy.
Sometimes you have to watch an ad, but most of the time, you just tap the product and it puts a checkmark on the rebate so that if you end up buying that item, the rebate will be applied to you.

I love that you don’t have to do anything BEFORE you make your purchase…so if you don’t look at the app ahead of time, it’s fine.  Once you have your receipt, you have a week to upload it and claim your rebate.

I also love that if a new rebate becomes available within the week, you can submit your receipt again and ibotta magically knows that you’ve already submitted the other stuff and just gives you the new one.

The best rebates

My favorite rebates are the ones for any brand!  These are all from the last month or two:  apples, green onions, salsa, beef jerky, bananas, cereal, sour cream, apple juice, coffee.  They come and go…not all are available at the same time.  If you buy one of the any brand items, any size/flavor/brand, you get the rebate!  You can’t beat that.

How do you get paid?

So, once you’ve found all of your rebates and made your purchase, click Redeem.

Then you either scan the receipt or it will tell you to take a picture of the receipt.

That’s it!

Here’s one of our most recent ones:

When you have at least $20 in your account, you can claim your rebate…in cash from Paypal or in gift cards.

We usually get it in the form of a Walmart gift card, but we’ve also gotten Kohl’s, itunes, Amazon, and Old Navy gift cards.  There are lots more gift cards to choose from (Best Buy, Starbucks, Target, Whole Foods, Sam’s Club, Applebee’s, etc.).

Once you choose how you want to receive it, you get an email right away with the gift card in it.  I’ve used the gift cards online and in stores with no problems.

If you invite friends and family to join Ibotta, then you get a bonus and they get $10… and then your rebates add to each other’s totals toward monthly bonuses.  How cool is that?!

They have other bonuses, that, to me, are kind of random…like this one…

But, hey, it’s free money, so I’m good with the random bonus!

Sounds too good to be true…What’s the downside?

The only issue I have had is sometimes I think one product will be eligible for a rebate, but it’s not…like when I don’t read the whole rebate, and you had to buy the 15 oz size instead of the 20 oz, or something like that…

But on every rebate, you can choose to scan a bar code and just make sure that it’s the one they’re accepting.  That helps me to be sure.

I’ve also had one instance when the rebate said any size, any flavor but it wasn’t giving me the rebate…so I sent a message to their helpdesk, and they gave it to me.  🙂
